Sclerotherapy (Spider Vein Treatment)

Columbus Dermatology offers schlerotherapy to our patients who are seeking relief from the discomfort of unsightly spider veins. Schlerotherapy is a quick, comfortable and non-surgical procedure that dramatically reduces the appearance of spider veins as well as varicose veins. Patients are able to return to regular activity the same day. The Procedure Columbus Dermatology uses state-of-the-art diagnostic and treatment equipment to perform the procedure. In this simple procedure, a hair-thin needle is inserted into the veins to be treated and a solution called a sclerosant is injected. The sclerosant causes the vein to collapse and then gradually be abosorbed into the skin and disappear. A typical treatment runs between 20-30 minutes during which many veins are treated at once. Spider veins require 3-10 sessions depending on your specific condition. The treatments are usually spaced 2-4 weeks apart. Varicose vein treatment depends on the size, number and severity of the veins. Dr. Paull will outline a detailed plan during your initial consultation. Are there any Side Effects? Most people leave with no discomfort at all. At most, a few individuals feel a slight soreness or have temporary swelling in the treated veins. A mild medication like Tylenol will be prescribed to such patients.
